PM Modi Criticizes Congress for “Unreal” Promises, Claims Poor and Youth Suffer

Mumbai, 2nd November 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party on Friday for making “unreal” and “false” promises to the public, claiming that the poor, youth, farmers, and women have become victims of such political tactics. His comments followed Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s advice to the Karnataka unit to ensure that their promises are financially viable.

PM Modi urged the public to be cautious of the Congress’s culture of false commitments, highlighting recent electoral results in Haryana, where voters opted for a government that is stable and action-oriented instead of falling for Congress’s falsehoods. He remarked, “The Congress Party is learning the hard way that while making unrealistic promises may be easy, fulfilling them is a different matter entirely. They continue to assure the public of benefits they know they will never deliver, leaving them exposed.”

He pointed to fiscal challenges in Congress-ruled states such as Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, where the party has failed to deliver on their “so-called guarantees.” He stated, “In every Congress-ruled state, the situation is deteriorating. Their unfulfilled promises are a betrayal of the citizens, affecting the very groups they claim to support.”

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal refuted PM Modi’s claims, asserting that the Karnataka government is effectively implementing its promised schemes. “We are fulfilling our commitments in Karnataka. Anyone can verify this. What the Prime Minister said is incorrect. The central government is not delivering on its promises and is blaming us for their failures,” he stated.

Without naming individuals, PM Modi accused the Congress of focusing more on internal party politics and corruption rather than on developmental issues. He noted, “In Karnataka, Congress is preoccupied with infighting and looting rather than progressing with development. Existing schemes are at risk of being rolled back. In Himachal Pradesh, government employees are not receiving timely salaries. Farmers in Telangana are still waiting for promised loan waivers.”

Earlier, Kharge emphasized the importance of careful planning, warning that rushed decisions could have financial repercussions for future generations. This statement came in light of the state government’s consideration to revise the Shakti scheme, which offers free bus transport for women. He advised, “In Maharashtra, I suggested avoiding multiple guarantees that are not budget-based to prevent potential bankruptcy.”

The political atmosphere heated up with the BJP demanding apologies from Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad remarked, “For the first time, Congress has admitted to misleading the public. Will Mallikarjun Kharge apologize for the situation in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh? The INDI alliance may attempt similar tactics in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and both Kharge and Gandhi should apologize to the nation.” He contrasted this with the BJP’s approach of making promises grounded in “fiscal responsibility.”
