Mumbai: Upcoming Textile Hub to Centralize Nagpur’s Textile Business
Mumbai, 3rd September 2023: A four-acre plot in Nagpur’s central Ganesh Peth area is slated to become a bustling textile hub. Nagpur Mandal, an arm of MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority), will spearhead the construction of an eight-story textile complex that will unite approximately 3000 shopkeepers and entrepreneurs associated with the textile industry in Nagpur.
This ambitious project aims to streamline all facets of the textile business, from production to the sale of ready-made garments, under one roof.
The decision to establish this textile complex stems from the demolition of the cloth market located at Badi Market, Kelibag Road, Itwari, and Gandhibagh in Nagpur to facilitate road widening work. In response, the idea emerged to provide a centralized hub for professionals displaced by these developments, leading to the concept of a textile hub.
Consequently, MHADA’s land in Ganesh Peth has been earmarked for the textile complex’s construction. Nagpur Mandal will oversee the development, with the complex utilizing 20 percent of the project area designated for it.
At present, the textile complex project is in its preliminary stage, with a recent meeting convened under the chairmanship of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss the initiative. During this meeting, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, Nagpur Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, and Mahesh Kumar Meghmale were in attendance. Noted architect Hafiz Contractor presented the project, outlining plans for an eight-story complex that will house 3000 traders and shopkeepers. Additionally, a three-story parking facility will be erected for customer convenience.
The complex will comprise six floors dedicated to various textile markets, including children’s and men’s textiles, sarees, and textile-related shops. The top floor will provide catering services for customers, while a solar power project on the complex’s roof will meet its electricity needs, resulting in cost savings for professionals. Hafiz Contractor has been given one month to finalize the complex’s design, after which a meeting will be convened to approve the project.
Plots within the complex will be made available through MHADA’s popular e-auction system, where the highest bidder will secure the site. Notably, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has hinted that while the complex’s sites will be auctioned through MHADA, they will be priced affordably to benefit professionals in the textile industry.
