Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray Supports Congress and NCP Candidate for MVA Chief Ministerial Position
Mumbai, 16th August 2024: On Friday, Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), declared his support for any candidate chosen by the Congress and NCP (SP) for the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s chief ministerial position.
Speaking to MVA party workers, Thackeray emphasized that the upcoming assembly elections are crucial for maintaining Maharashtra’s dignity.
The Maharashtra assembly elections are expected to take place in October or November.
The MVA coalition includes Shiv Sena (UBT), the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, and Congress.
Thackeray stated he would endorse any chief ministerial candidate put forward by the Congress and NCP (SP) for the MVA.
“I am not just fighting for personal gain but for the rights and respect of Maharashtra,” Thackeray asserted.
He stressed that the selection of the chief ministerial candidate should be prioritized over the outcome of which party secures the most seats.
Thackeray urged MVA members to rise above personal interests and strive to safeguard Maharashtra’s honour and welfare.
He also called on them to act as representatives of the opposition alliance throughout the state.
Regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal for a secular civil code during his Independence Day speech, Thackeray questioned whether Modi had abandoned Hindutva.
Thackeray also criticized the Prime Minister over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, questioning why it was not passed when the BJP held a majority.
