MSRTC Bus Stands to Get More Security, CCTV, and Complaint Cells: Minister Madhuri Misal
Pune, 1st March 2025: Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Transport and Parvati MLA Madhuri Misal, has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance security measures at Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Bus Stands across the state following a recent rape incident at Swargate Bus Depot in Pune. The decision was made after a review meeting held today with MSRTC and Police officials.
The new security measures include increasing the number of security personnel at bus stations and establishing a dedicated Security Guard Committee within the MSRTC, to be headed by an IPS-rank officer. The minister also announced the reinstatement of security vigilance officers and enhanced police patrols at bus stands. At Swargate Bus Depot specifically, the number of CCTV cameras will be increased to improve surveillance.
To address passenger concerns more effectively, complaint redressal cells will be set up at bus station premises, and a toll-free number will be introduced for registering complaints. The minister emphasized that immediate action would be taken to ensure women’s safety at bus stations. Additionally, measures will be implemented to prevent unauthorized entry of private bus operators into MSRTC Bus Stands.
Minister Misal stated that strict action would be taken against any officials or contractors found guilty in the audit of the Swargate incident. She also announced that all buses in need of scrapping across the state’s depots would be scrapped by 15th April, in line with the central government’s scrappage policy. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the MSRTC, Police Department, and RTO, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende and Assistant Police Commissioner Ashwini Rakh, both leading Pune Police’s Traffic Branch.
