
Mahavitaran awarded as the best performing power distribution company
Mumbai, 22nd March 2025: Mahavitaran was on Saturday awarded as the best performing power distribution company by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) in New Delhi.
Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Abha Shukla accepted the award. Executive Director of Mahavitaran Dattatreya Padalkar was present on the occasion.
Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Lokesh Chandra thanked the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the award and congratulated the officers and employees of Mahavitaran.
Mahavitaran supplies electricity to the entire state except some parts of Mumbai. Mahavitaran has 3 crore 11 lakh customers including domestic, industrial, commercial and agricultural. Mahavitaran is the largest power distribution company in the country.
Mahavitaran was selected for the best performance award considering the use of information technology for customer services and electricity distribution, the emphasis on the use of renewable energy by implementing the Energy Transition Plan, the proposal presented before the Commission to reduce power tariff for consumers by reducing electricity purchase costs, and various schemes implemented including Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) to provide solar energy to agriculture pumps.
Increasing the number of power substations, increasing their capacity, building a network of new power lines and improving the power distribution system were also considered while honoring Mahavitaran.
Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0, which is being implemented for daytime supply electricity to agricultural pumps, is a game-changer scheme. It is the largest decentralized solar power generation project in the country. Due to this, the demand of farmers for decades of daytime power supply to agricultural pumps will be fulfilled. The implementation of the scheme is going on at a rapid pace. The goal of supplying 100 percent solar energy to all agricultural pumps in the state will be achieved in the coming year. Under this scheme, electricity is available at an affordable rate. Due to this, the electricity purchase cost of Mahavitaran will be reduced to a large extent.
Mahavitaran has secured the first place in the country in installing off grid solar agricultural pumps. Mahavitaran has been given the responsibility as the nodal agency for the state government’s scheme to run the Lift Irrigation Schemes on solar energy.
Mahavitaran has started the Solar Village Scheme to make the village self-sufficient in energy by meeting the entire electricity requirement of the village on locally generated solar energy. Due to this, the villagers also become free from electricity bills. 100 villages in the state will be developed as solar villages by Mahavitaran, out of which 10 villages have become solar villages.
Mahavitaran has started a campaign to run its own offices, power substations, customer service centers and guest houses on solar energy. The solar energy generation project installed on the roof of Mahavitaran’s headquarters was recently inaugurated.
Mahavitaran has set up 63 charging stations for electric vehicles in the state. Mahavitaran has taken a step towards charging vehicles based on renewable energy by connecting the electric vehicle charging station set up in Pune to a rooftop solar power generation project.
