Maharashtra: Case Filed Against Rahul Gandhi For Controversial Statement On Savarkar

Thane, 18th November 2022: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi made a controversial statement about Veer Damodar Savarkar during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. A case has been registered against him at Thane Nagar Police Station. Vandana Dongre, head of Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena, filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi.

Dongre has alleged that the sentiments of local citizens have been hurt due to the remarks against Savarkar. Dongre has taken a stand that he will not tolerate the defamation of great men on the soil of Maharashtra. The Shinde group has also supported his position.

Meanwhile, a protest march was organized in Thane by the Shinde group against Rahul Gandhi’s statement. Naresh Mhaske, the spokesperson of the Shinde group, demanded that a case should be filed against Gandhi and he should be arrested during the march.

“Savarkar had written an apology to the British. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and Vallabhbhai Patel remained in jail for many years, but they never wrote any apology. Savarkar signed the apology out of fear. Savarkar somehow betrayed other leaders of the freedom struggle at that time,” the Congress leader said.

Rahul Gandhi also highlighted that Savarkar had said in the letter – “I want to be your servant.”
