‘Liquor Bottles Found Scattered In The Field’, Yuva Sena Alleges After Shinde’s Dussehra Rally
Mumbai, 6th October 2022: Pradeep Sawant, a member of Mumbai University for Yuva Sena, said, “The fact is that the university grounds were vacated and vehicles were parked in a haphazard manner.’’
A day after the Eknath Shinde faction’s Dussehra rally ended, several student organizations affiliated to Mumbai University alleged that the campus was left in a dilapidated condition. On Thursday, members of Shiv Sena’s youth wing ‘Yuva Sena’ visited the Kalina campus and found plastic bottles, food packets as well as empty liquor bottles on the grounds and streets inside the campus.
The Shinde faction had on Wednesday sought space inside the Kalina campus of the university so that the vehicles of the rally participants could be parked inside the campus. Last week, spokespersons of various political parties including Yuva Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Youth Congress, and Chhatra Bharati Vidyarthi Sangathan had already opposed the move and called it a “misuse of government land”. At the same time, security issues were also questioned.
‘Vehicles parked randomly in the ground’
Pradeep Sawant, the MU member for Yuva Sena, said, “The fact is that the university grounds were vacated and vehicles were parked in a haphazard manner. The campus houses staff and students. Those who were allowed to enter the campus on Wednesday not only left the campus in a dilapidated condition but also damaged the main entrance of the university (BKC-Entrance).
On October 1, the three student groups requested the MU administration to deny permission to use three MU grounds for parking purposes on the day of the Dussehra rally. Rohit Dhale, president of Chhatra Bharati Vidyarthi Sangathan, said, “Not only is this misuse of university grounds, but it is also a threat to the staff and students residing on the campus. There are several hostels inside the Kalina campus, including at least two girls’ hostels. Who will take responsibility for the safety of the students?’’
Mumbai Mayor Kishori said, ‘’It is unacceptable. On Thursday morning in Kalina campus, several BMC garbage trucks were clearing bottles scattered all over the premises. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said, “Liquor bottles were found in the MU Kalina campus, where the vehicles of the rally participants were parked. This is unacceptable.” Mumbai University officials said that the grounds were provided to them after a written demand was made by the BMC.
