Kharge Forms New Committee After Dissolving CWC
Delhi, 26th October 2022: New Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has come into action as soon as he took over. He has announced the party’s steering committee. It includes many big names. Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh have been given a place on this committee. Till the new Congress Working Committee is not formed, the activities of the party will run through the Steering Committee.
The CWC is the biggest decision-making body of Congress, but until its formation, all the decisions will be taken through the Steering Committee. The CWC will be announced in the plenary session of the party. According to the party’s constitution, 11 members are nominated, and 12 are elected. On Wednesday, all the members of the CWC resigned so that a new committee could be formed easily.
A total of 47 leaders have been included in the Steering Committee of Congress. In this, apart from Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Dr Manmohan Singh, AK Antony, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Ajay Maken, Ambika Soni, Anand Sharma, Avinash Pandey, Gaikhangam, Harish Rawat, Jairam Ramesh, Jitendra Singh, Kumari Selja, KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik, Oommen Chandy, Priyanka Gandhi, P Chidambaram, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Raghubir Meena, Tariq Anwar, A Chella Kumar, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Bhakta Charan Das, Devendra Yadav Digvijay Singh, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Harish Chaudhary, HK Patil, Jai Prakash Agarwal, KH Muniyappa, B Manickam Tagore, Manish Chatrath, Meira Kumar, PL Punia, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Pramod Tiwari, Ranjani Patil, Raghu Sharma, Sanjeev Shukla, Salman Khurshid, Shaktisinh Gohil, T Subbirami Reddy, and Tariq Hamid are involved.
Apart from a few selected leaders like Anand Sharma and Mukul Wasnik, leaders of G23 have not been given a place in the governing committee of Congress. Shashi Tharoor, who contested against Mallikarjun Kharge, was also not given a place on this steering committee. Apart from this, senior leaders Manish Tewari, PJ Kurien, Prithviraj Javan, and Bhupendra Hooda have also been kept out of this list. These leaders had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi asking to change the leadership of the party.
