Implement the Order for Appointment of Sanitation Workers Under Inheritance Rights – Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat
Mumbai, 28th January 2025: The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court, through its order dated January 8, 2025, has lifted the stay on appointments granted to the heirs of sanitation workers under inheritance rights. With this decision, the way is now clear for sanitation workers to receive appointments based on inheritance rights. Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat has issued directives to implement this order.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Lad Committee, revised provisions for appointments of sanitation workers under inheritance rights were introduced through a government resolution dated February 24, 2023. As per this decision, the government had decided to extend the benefits to all sanitation workers who fall under the defined category. However, the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court had placed a stay on granting appointments under inheritance rights to sanitation workers, except for those belonging to the Valmiki, Mehtar, Bhangi, Scheduled Caste, and Neo-Buddhist communities, until further orders in connection with various petitions.
Considering the High Court’s order dated January 8, 2025, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat has instructed all departments to immediately act in accordance with the provisions of the government resolution dated February 24, 2023, as well as any subsequent amendments and clarifications issued.
Additionally, the minister has directed all Commissioners, Municipal Corporation Commissioners, the Directorate of Municipal Council Administration, and the Social Welfare Commissioner, Pune, to ensure that no injustice is done to any sanitation worker concerning appointments under inheritance rights.
