Government’s Corruption in Materials Caused Chhatrapati Shivaji Statue to Collapse, Says Jayant Patil in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri Chinchwad, 13th November 2024: Yesterday, former Minister and Maharashtra State President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), Jayant Patil, visited Pimpri-Chinchwad to campaign for his party’s candidates in the Chinchwad and Bhosari constituencies. He held a meeting in Rahatani for the NCP-SP’s Chinchwad candidate, Rahul Kalate, and in Chikhali for the Bhosari candidate, Ajit Gavhane. During these meetings, Patil strongly criticized the Mahayuti government, alleging corruption in the construction of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Malvan.
The rally was attended by former MLAs Gautam Chabukswar and Vilas Lande, NCP-SP Pimpri-Chinchwad City President Tushar Kamthe, along with other office bearers and activists.
Speaking at the rally, Jayant Patil criticized the Mahayuti government, alleging extensive corruption under its rule. He claimed that the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Malvan was a direct result of this corruption. “The Mahayuti government has even engaged in corruption with the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. By using poor-quality materials, the statue in Malvan fell within just eight months. This government must face accountability,” Patil said.
Jayant Patil further remarked that the Vedanta and Foxconn project, initially planned for Talegaon Dabhade, was moved to Gujarat. He questioned Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s unfulfilled promises of bringing larger projects to Maharashtra, pointing out that none have materialized as Shinde’s tenure nears its end. Patil claimed that Gujarat has outpaced Maharashtra due to government inaction, mismanagement, inflation, and rising unemployment. He also criticized the Central Government for weakening the economy, stating, “The government’s inefficiency has led to the rupee’s historic depreciation, with 1 dollar now valued at Rs 84.33.”
Jayant Patil further criticized widespread corruption within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), alleging that MLAs secure contracts for personal gain, turning the city into a “money-grabber” for themselves. He highlighted the city’s development and the problems that were resolved under Sharad Pawar’s vision and the NCP’s leadership but claimed that recent leaders have neglected its reputation. Patil urged voters to elect honest representatives to restore integrity to Pimpri-Chinchwad’s governance.
