Fishing May Soon Get Agriculture Status: Union Minister Parshottam Rupala

Mumbai, 22nd February 2023: Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy said that fishing may soon receive the status of agriculture and the Kisan Credit Card Program may soon be made available to fishermen.

On Tuesday (February 21), Sagar Parikrama concluded the Sasson Docks in Mumbai.

He said, “Because the current NDRF and SDRF compensation programs for fishermen are out of date, we will make improvements to them. The current NDRF assistance package for fishermen is only Rs 2,700 for destroyed nets and Rs 9,800 for damaged boats.’

The minister, who was joined by CM Eknath Shinde, and Rahul Narvekar, the speaker of the assembly, emphasized the industry’s importance to exports and its contribution to the economy.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, the state counterpart to Rupala, pledged fresh subsidies and infrastructure to fishermen.

Mungatiwar discussed biodiversity preservation and the government’s efforts to combat sewage and industrial waste-related water contamination. To prevent attacks similar to the ones that occurred on September 11, 2001, the government has formed a committee to guarantee infrastructure and surveillance equipment on fishing jetties are improved.

Mungatiwar also unveiled a blue revolution strategy that aims to modernize the supply chain’s infrastructure in the areas of cold storage, drying, peeling, and packing.
