Exploring space and reducing social inequalities are equally important – Dr. Fauzia Khan, NCP MP (Rajya Sabha)
Pune, 12th January 2024: Dr. Fauzia Khan, NCP MP (Rajya Sabha), highlighted the equal importance of space exploration and addressing social inequalities on Earth. Speaking at the 13th edition of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad in Pune, she emphasized that global issues like women’s safety are interconnected with the evolution and advancement of human civilization. Dr. Khan urged for a change from within, beyond technological and infrastructural advancements, to truly label ourselves as an advanced civilization.
The session, titled “As we land on Moon, are Women Safe on Land,” was chaired by BJP MLA and Former Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Girish Gautam. UNESCO Chair Holder Revered Prof Dr. Vishwanath D Karad, Founder President MIT WPU, presided over the function, with several other dignitaries in attendance.
Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Activist Adv. Abha Singh, Scientist and Former Director General of Aeronautical Systems (AS) at DRDO Dr. Tessy Thomas, Former MP (Rajya Sabha) Roopa Ganguly, and MIT WPU Executive President, and MIT SOG Founder Rahul V. Karad, were among the notable figures present. AD (S) MLA Dr. Surabhi from Kaimganj, Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, received the Aadarsh Yuva Vidhayak Samman (Ideal Youth MLA Honour) for her outstanding performance in development work and promotion of parliamentary democracy.
Dr. Khan highlighted the multidimensional aspects of an advanced civilization, encompassing governance structures, laws, civil social structures, and technological and infrastructural development. She underscored the positive impact of space technology on economies, generating business opportunities and skilled jobs. Dr. Khan stressed that space exploration and addressing social inequalities are intertwined, with space technology aiding in solving terrestrial problems.
Roopa Ganguly addressed the increasing reporting of crimes against women, urging fathers, boys, and men to actively engage in discussions about women’s safety. Dr. Tessy Thomas emphasized the pivotal role of education in fostering cultural respect towards women, advocating for reform in the educational system to provide physical education and protective capabilities to girls.
Adv. Abha Singh urged women to elect representatives who legislate and act to protect women’s rights and justice. Girish Gautam echoed the sentiment of respecting women, stating that youth play a transformative role in eliminating gender inequality.
Student leaders from various states delivered inspirational speeches, and Dr. Gautam Bapat served as the compere. Dr. Vrushali Kulkarni, Associate Dean, School of Computer Engineering & Technology, MIT WPU, welcomed the guests, and Dr. Preeti Joshi, Associate Dean, External Relations, School of Liberal Arts, School of Media and Journalism, MIT WPU, expressed the vote of thanks.
