Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to Surrender on June 2: Emotional Plea for Public to Care for Parents
New Delhi, 1st June 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that he will surrender on June 2, making an emotional appeal to the public to take care of his elderly, ailing parents in his absence.
“I will leave my house around 3 PM on Sunday to surrender. It is possible that this time they will torture me more, but I will not bow down,” he stated.
Kejriwal reassured Delhi residents that all public services would continue uninterrupted during his absence.
“You take care of yourself; I worry a lot about you while I’m in jail. If you are happy, your Kejriwal will also be happy. I will not be with you but don’t worry, all your services will continue. And after returning, I will start giving Rs 1,000 every month to every mother and sister,” he said in a virtual press conference.
The Delhi Court has reserved its decision on the interim bail plea filed by Kejriwal, which cited medical grounds. The court has scheduled the pronouncement of the order for June 5.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that Kejriwal has been campaigning in various states without undergoing any medical tests, suggesting he is attempting to delay the judicial process.
SV Raju, Additional Solicitor General, stated, “He wants to cheat the court by delaying the tests.”
In response, N Hariharan, Senior Advocate representing Kejriwal, explained, “The interim bail was to campaign for my party, which is a national party. I am out for 20 days, and had I not campaigned, you would have said he didn’t campaign and then fell ill.”
Hariharan emphasized that the plea is for medical bail, not an extension of the Supreme Court order.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta noted, “Arvind Kejriwal had been travelling for campaigning purposes but didn’t get tests done.”
The Supreme Court Registrar has issued a detailed order, which has been allegedly suppressed by Kejriwal’s team, stating that despite his travels for campaigning, he did not undergo the necessary medical tests.
