Central Government Approves PM-RKVY And Krishi Unnati Yojana Schemes; Provision Of Rs 1,01,321.61 Crore Sanctioned For Same

Pune, 4th October 2024: The Central Government has approved the PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishi Unnati Yojana schemes with a provision of ₹1,01,321.61 crore to ensure food security and self-sufficiency in foodgrain production.

The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (3rd October) approved the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and Krishi Unnati Yojana to be implemented on behalf of the Central and State Governments under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

A total provision of ₹1,01,321.61 crore has been made available for both schemes. In this amount, the central government’s share will be ₹69,088.98 crore and the state government’s share will be ₹32,232.63 crore; while ₹57,074.72 crore for PM–RKVY scheme and ₹44,246.89 crores for Krishi Unnati Yojana.

The National Edible Oil Mission Scheme has been approved for self-sufficiency in edible oil production. The scheme will be implemented in seven financial years from 2024-25 to 2030-31 at an expenditure of around ₹10,103 crore.

Under this scheme, the objectives are to increase the cultivation and production of Mustard, Groundnut, Soybean, Sunflower, and Sesame.

In 2022-23, the production of oilseeds was 39 million tonnes. It is targeted to increase to 697 lakh tonnes by 2030-31, while total edible oil production including palm oil is targeted to 254.5 lakh tonnes. It is said that the product will be 72 percent of our potential requirement. Targets have also been set to increase the cultivation of oilseeds by about 40 lakh hectares.
