Boatman’s Rs 30 Crore Maha Kumbh Earnings Highlight Economic Boom: Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow, 5th March 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the state assembly, shared an impressive financial success story from the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj—a boatman and his family amassed ₹30 crore within just 45 days. The Chief Minister stated that the boatman owned 130 boats, each yielding an average profit of ₹23 lakh during the grand religious festival.

“A boatman’s family, with a fleet of 130 boats, earned ₹30 crore in 45 days during the Mahakumbh. This translates to approximately ₹23 lakh per boat over the period, or around ₹50,000-52,000 per day,” Yogi Adityanath explained.

His remarks came during a discussion on the 2025-26 annual budget in the legislative assembly on Tuesday, where he emphasized the economic significance of the Maha Kumbh. He highlighted that the event, attended by devotees from over 100 countries, transcended caste, regional, and religious barriers, presenting a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

The Chief Minister also refuted claims of discrimination at the Maha Kumbh, asserting that the event was an inclusive representation of the state’s capabilities on an international level. He dismissed opposition accusations of bias, stating that despite attempts to mislead people, devotees’ faith remained steadfast. Over 66 crore pilgrims and saints participated in the sacred ritual of taking a dip at the Sangam during the festival.

“For the opposition, Maha Kumbh devotees were merely a vote bank, but for us, they symbolize our rich heritage and faith. That’s why people have confidence in our government,” he said, criticizing the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Yogi Adityanath further detailed the economic impact of Maha Kumbh, estimating that it contributed ₹3.5 lakh crore to Uttar Pradesh’s economy. He outlined key sectors that benefited financially from the event, including:

– ₹40,000 crore from the hospitality industry
– ₹33,000 crore from food and essential supplies
– ₹1.5 lakh crore from transportation services
