BJP Nears Decision to Appoint Devendra Fadnavis as Next National President, Sources Reveal
New Delhi, 2nd August 2024: On Wednesday night, senior BJP sources revealed that the party leadership is close to finalizing Devendra Fadnavis as the next BJP National President. Fadnavis is expected to resign from his position as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister in the coming weeks and relocate to New Delhi. This information was shared only with the top party leaders earlier that day.
Recently, following the official Niti Aayog meeting with state chief ministers in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi convened a meeting with all BJP Chief Ministers at the party headquarters. Subsequently, he had a private discussion with Devendra Fadnavis. After this meeting, Fadnavis’s family was photographed with the Prime Minister. According to BJP sources, the discussion about appointing Fadnavis as BJP National President took place between Modi and Fadnavis, with further deliberations on the matter occurring over the following days.
Union Minister J.P. Nadda’s tenure as party president ended a few weeks ago, sparking speculation about his successor.
The current discussion within the party also revolves around who will lead the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. Initially, it was thought that Fadnavis might stay in Maharashtra until after the assembly elections before moving to New Delhi. However, recent updates suggest that there may be a push for Fadnavis to transition to the national role sooner than anticipated.
Sources in New Delhi have hinted that Vinod Tawde, a party General Secretary, could be a potential candidate to lead the BJP in Maharashtra, although this has not been officially confirmed by party sources.
