BJP MP Naveen Jindal Makes a Statement Riding a Horse to Cast Vote in Haryana Elections

Chandigarh, 5th October 2024: BJP MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal arrived at a polling station in Kurukshetra, Haryana, on Saturday riding a horse to cast his vote in the Haryana assembly elections. In a video that has gone viral, Jindal is seen dismounting from a brown horse and greeting his supporters at the polling site, where he also posed for photographs with them.

Jindal, who left the Congress party to join the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in March, is part of a significant political family. His mother, Savitri Jindal, serves as the chairperson of the O P Jindal Group and is running as an independent candidate in the Haryana assembly elections from the Hisar constituency. She is facing off against Haryana minister and sitting MLA Kamal Gupta.

After casting her vote, Savitri urged the citizens of Haryana to participate in the electoral process. “I have voted. This election is important for the people of Hisar; everyone should make their voice heard. I will work to ensure Hisar is beautiful and developed,” she stated.

Seema Jindal, Savitri’s daughter, also voted and emphasized the importance of civic duty, saying, “Pehle matdan phir jalpan – This is a ‘yagna’ for our country, city, and state. Everyone must cast their vote.”

The Haryana assembly elections are taking place in a single phase on Saturday, with 1,031 candidates, including 101 women, contesting for 90 seats in the Haryana legislative assembly.

The ruling BJP, which has been in power since 2014, is vying for a third consecutive term, while the Congress is aiming to reclaim authority, capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments and issues stemming from farmer and wrestler protests.

Key candidates in this election include current Chief Minister and BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Congress, and ex-Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. Notably, former wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who recently joined Congress, is contesting her first election.

Election results for the Haryana assembly will be announced on October 8. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 of the 90 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP, which won 10 seats, although the JJP later exited the coalition. The Congress party garnered 31 seats during that election.
