BJP MP Brijesh Chowta Urges NIA Probe into VHP Worker Suhas Shetty’s Murder
Bengaluru, 3rd May 2025: Brijesh Chowta, BJP State Secretary and Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, has formally written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding that the murder case of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) member Suhas Shetty be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation.
In his letter, Chowta described the May 1 killing in Bajpe as a “cold-blooded and shocking” incident that has deeply disturbed the residents of coastal Karnataka. He emphasised that the murder, carried out in public view, has instilled fear and anger across the region.
Terming the killing as part of a wider pattern of violence, Chowta linked the incident to what he called “a surge in lawlessness, radicalism, and anti-national activity.” He drew parallels with the earlier killing of BJP worker Praveen Nettaru, who was allegedly targeted by members of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Chowta expressed concern that similar elements may be involved in Shetty’s murder.
“This is not an isolated case,” Chowta wrote. “There is a disturbing trend of Islamic radicalism re-emerging in the region, threatening communal harmony and public safety.” He stressed that the murder of another Hindu activist has heightened tensions and shaken public confidence in law enforcement.
Referring to the grief of Suhas Shetty’s family and the community’s demand for justice, the MP urged the Home Minister to facilitate an NIA probe, citing the possibility of involvement by operatives linked to banned outfits.
“We must expose the full extent of this conspiracy and ensure that not only the attackers but also their supporters and financiers are held accountable,” Chowta stated. He added that a thorough investigation by a central agency is essential to dismantle any underlying networks and reassure the public that justice will be delivered.
The BJP MP concluded his appeal by requesting direct intervention from Amit Shah to expedite the process and ensure that the perpetrators face swift and decisive legal consequences.
