BJP And Congress Lock Horns Over FIR Against Amit Malviya: Political Battle Escalates
New Delhi, 28th June 2023: Amit Malviya, the Chief of BJP IT Cell, has been charged by the Bengaluru Police in an FIR under sections 153A, 120B, 505(2), and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) due to a tweet directed at Rahul Gandhi.
Congress leader Ramesh Babu complained to the High Grounds Police Station, alleging that Malviya’s tweet against Rahul Gandhi was inflammatory and violated specific sections of the IPC.
Shehzad Poonawalla, a BJP leader, responded to the complaint against Malviya by stating, “The FIR against Amit Malviya is merely an attempt to misuse legal provisions to silence and intimidate. If Rahul Gandhi felt aggrieved by any tweet, he could have pursued a defamation case in court.”
Poonawalla added, “Using the state machinery to settle scores only reveals the incompetence of Congress’ own communication and social media apparatus, thereby necessitating the involvement of state police in their battles!”
On the other hand, Priyank Kharge from Congress criticized the BJP, saying, “Whenever the BJP faces legal consequences, they cry foul. They seem to have a problem abiding by the laws of the land. I would like to ask the BJP which part of the FIR was filed with malicious intent. We took legal advice before registering it.” This statement was made about the FIR filed against BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya in Karnataka.
