Asaduddin Owaisi Slams Devendra Fadnavis Over Alleged Mosque Attack in Maharashtra

Mumbai, 15th March 2025: Criticizing Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi condemned an incident where a mosque was allegedly attacked despite the presence of the police.

Expressing his outrage on social media platform X, he wrote, “Sir @Dev_Fadnavis, will the LAW take its course? It is disgraceful that a mosque was targeted while the police stood by.”

The controversy erupted after a viral video showed a group attempting to forcibly breach the gate of a mosque in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district.

According to media reports, the incident occurred on March 12 during the annual Shimga procession in the Konkan region. The video footage allegedly captures members of the procession using a tree trunk to strike the mosque’s gate, breaking it open.

The Shimga procession, held annually during Holi, traditionally involves participants carrying a long tree trunk and placing it on the steps of various religious sites. However, this year, some individuals allegedly used the trunk to forcefully hit the mosque’s gate.

Confirming the incident, Ratnagiri Superintendent of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni stated that there was no forced entry into the mosque. He asserted that the police responded promptly and clarified, “In the Rajapur incident, the tree trunk used in the procession is traditionally placed at multiple religious locations, including the mosque. There was no attack as claimed. Some youths raised slogans, and we have filed a case in connection with that.”
