Arvind Kejriwal’s First Night in Tihar Jail: Pacing, Low Blood Sugar Levels Reported
New Delhi, 2nd April 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is presently under judicial custody until April 15 in connection with the excise policy case, reportedly had a restless first night in his 14X8 feet cell in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. According to sources, the AAP chief paced back and forth within his cell and was able to sleep for only a few hours.
According to prison officials, Arvind Kejriwal arrived at Tihar Jail at 4 pm on Monday. He underwent a medical examination before being escorted to his solitary cell. His sugar levels were reportedly below 50 at the time of his arrival, prompting medical attention and the provision of necessary medications.
Kejriwal is currently housed in jail number 2 and will be permitted to meet with his family today.
Throughout his stay, the jail authorities have provided him with essential amenities including a mattress, blankets, and two pillows. Despite the provision of these basic necessities, he opted to sleep on a cement platform during the night, while pacing around the cell later.
In the morning, his sugar levels remained low, and he was served home-cooked food for lunch and dinner as per the advice of doctors until his sugar levels normalize. Additionally, Kejriwal reportedly meditated in his cell in the morning and had tea accompanied by two biscuits.
For security purposes, two personnel from Tihar Jail Security and a jail warder have been stationed outside his cell. CCTV cameras are monitoring him, with a quick reaction team positioned nearby.
Furthermore, Kejriwal has been provided with three books he requested, including the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’, along with his religious locket.
In compliance with prison regulations, Kejriwal has submitted a list of six individuals whom he wishes to meet. The list includes his wife Sunita Kejriwal, their son and daughter, his private secretary Bibhav Kumar, and AAP general secretary (organization) Sandeep Pathak.
