Air Travel Now Available For Maharashtra State Government Employees With Prior Permission Of Department Secretary

Mumbai, 20th December 2022: As per the rules of the Maharashtra government, so far, air travel did not apply to officers below the rank of secretary, with few exceptions. But now the finance department directed the secretary of the concerned departments to allow the officers and employees to travel by air for essential government work.

As per the rules of the state government, there was a provision for air travel with the prior permission of the concerned department secretary if it was not possible to reach in time for legislative or judicial proceedings by other means. However, the secretary of the department cannot be present every time for such tasks as attending meetings of the central government and following up on centrally sponsored schemes. At that time, officers and employees of the department have to be present for government work. In this background, the finance department released the government decision to apply air travel discounts to officers and employees.

Air travel for officers and employees will not be applicable for the return journey. In exceptional circumstances, the prior written permission of the Department Secretary will be required. Only one officer will be allowed at a time, and the travel must be in economy class on low-cost airlines. Business Class expenses will not be reimbursed. Each department can spend up to two and a half lakhs for each financial year.
