AAP Promises Rs 18,000 Monthly Honorarium for Pujaris and Granthis in Delhi Assembly Polls
New Delhi, 30th December 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has unveiled a proposal to provide a monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 to the ‘pujaris’ of temples and ‘granthis’ of Gurdwaras if it retains power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in February 2025.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced that the registration for the scheme will start at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place on Tuesday. He highlighted that this is the first initiative of its kind in India aimed at financially supporting religious leaders like pujaris and granthis.
“They assist us with various religious ceremonies, but their families have often been overlooked. This honorarium will offer them the respect they deserve,” Kejriwal stated during a press briefing.
Kejriwal also took a jab at the BJP, advising them not to interfere with the registration process for the scheme.
When asked about the number of pujaris and granthis likely to benefit, Kejriwal said the exact figure would be shared after the registration is complete. He assured that the scheme would not be hindered by financial concerns.
