AAP Announces Second List of Candidates for Delhi Assembly Elections

New Delhi, 9th December 2024: On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its second list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, set to take place early next year, though the Election Commission of India (ECI) has yet to announce the official date. In this list, 13 sitting MLAs were dropped.

Earlier, in its first list released on November 21, the party had already excluded three sitting MLAs.

With the latest announcement, AAP has named 31 candidates in total and removed 16 sitting MLAs. Among those dropped are Narela MLA Sharad Chauhan, Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey, Adarsh Nagar MLA Pawan Kumar Sharma, Mundka MLA Dharampal Lakra, Chandni Chowk MLA Parlad Shawney, Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi, Bijwasan MLA Bhupender Singh Joon, Palam MLA Bhawna Gaur, Jungpura MLA Praveen Kumar, Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal, Trilokpuri MLA Rohit Kumar Mehrauilia, Krishna Nagar MLA SK Bagga, Shahdara MLA Ram Niwas Goel, and Mustafabad MLA Adil Ahmad Khan.

The new list of candidates includes Avadh Ojha (Patparganj), Dinesh Bharadwaj (Narela), Surender Pal Singh Bittu (Timarpur), Mukesh Goel (Adarsh Nagar), Jasbir Kalra (Mundka), Rakesh Jatav (Mangolpuri), Pradeep Mittal (Rohini), Purandeep Singh Sawhney (Chandni Chowk), Parvesh Ratan (Patel Nagar), Pravin Kumar (Janakpuri), Surender Bharadwaj (Bijwasan), Joginder Solanki (Palam), Prem Kumar Chauhan (Deoli), Anjana Parcha (Trilokpuri), Vikas Bagga (Krishna Nagar), Naveen Chaudhary (Gandhi Nagar), Jinder Singh Shunty (Shahdara), and Adil Ahmad Khan (Mustafabad).

Ahead of the candidate announcement, Shahdara MLA Ram Niwas Goel and Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey had already decided to opt out of the 2025 elections.

Additionally, two sitting MLAs, Manish Sisodia from Patparganj and Rakhi Birla from Mangolpuri have been reassigned to contest from new constituencies.

AAP’s first list of 11 candidates, which included six former BJP and Congress members, was released on November 21, dropping three sitting legislators. The current term of the Delhi assembly is set to conclude on February 23, 2025.

In the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won eight.
