AAP and Congress Unite: Alliance Takes Shape for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Five States
New Delhi, 9th January 2024: In a significant political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and theIndian National Congress, both integral parts of the India Bloc, have initiated discussions on seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Gopal Rai, Delhi Government Minister and AAP leader, shared insights into the ongoing negotiations, emphasizing the positive nature of the discussions.
The alliance talks between AAP and Congress gained momentum on Monday as both parties explored the possibility of collaborating in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gopal Rai stated that the discussions have focused on contesting elections in alliance in five states, namely Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Goa, and Gujarat.
Gopal Rai maintained the AAP’s commitment to contesting elections in alliance with Congress, stressing the importance of a united front in the face of the upcoming elections. The Aam Aadmi Party, currently in power in Delhi and Punjab, seeks to solidify the alliance despite reservations from some Congress units in both states.
While the AAP and Congress are inclined towards an alliance, the scenario in Punjab presents a unique challenge. Congress units in Punjab state have expressed reservations and dissent regarding any potential agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party. Despite these challenges, Gopal Rai remains optimistic about a positive resolution.
Gopal Rai outlined the plan for the next meeting, indicating that discussions on seat distribution will take centre stage. He emphasized the importance of both parties taking an official stand once an agreement is reached, underlining the need for careful preparation and mutual decision-making.
Monday’s discussions between Congress and AAP included talks on seat sharing not only in Punjab but also in Delhi and other states. Both parties have decided to reconvene for further discussions to finalize the arrangement, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between these key components of India’s opposition bloc.
