Heavy Rainfall Triggers Several Landslide Incidents In Raigad District; Administration Alerted High Risk
Raigad, 27th June 2023: Raigad district has been experiencing relentless heavy rainfall over the past four days, leading to a series of landslides and traffic disruptions in the region. One such incident occurred on Tuesday on Ombli Road in Poladpur Taluka, where traffic was halted due to a substantial pile of mud and large stones obstructing the road.
As soon as the administration received the information, local authorities immediately reached the place, and the road was opened for traffic with the help of the JCB. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in this incident.
Similarly, a crack also occurred near Morjot waterfall on Umrath Khopod-Dhawale Road. The administration removed the debris, mud, and stones from the road within a few hours and opened the road for commuters. The intensity of the rain has increased in the taluka, and water has accumulated in the low-lying areas as well as on the service road next to the highway.
In addition to the landslides, several incidents of tree falls also occurred in the district. The roof of Vaishali Salgare’s house has been damaged due to a tree falling in Anandnagar on Monday. After came to know about the incident, Poladpur Tehsildar Kapil Ghorpade and Mahadev Sarambale of Nagar Panchayat conducted an inspection and ordered the tree to be cut down. They also ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an immediate Panchnama and provide the victim with the necessary assistance as soon as possible.
According to reports, approximately 72 villages in Mahad Taluka have been put on high alert due to the elevated risk of landslides along the roads. The administration is taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the residents and minimise potential damages.
