Delhi Protest: Police Detain CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke, AISA Leader Neha Bora Ahead Of ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ March

New Delhi, 16th October 2026: Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora on Friday, 16th October, ahead of the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place.

The march was scheduled for 5 pm at Central Park, with organisers calling on supporters to gather with the national flag. The demonstration was intended to protest the detention of CJP leaders and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

According to reports, Dipke was detained shortly after police served him a notice prohibiting the march. He was staying at the residence of Anish Gawande, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), in Karol Bagh.

A video of the incident showed Dipke questioning the police action, saying he had not broken any law and was going alone. Police personnel told him he was being placed under preventive detention, citing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which was in force in Connaught Place.

Bora was detained at Mandi House while heading towards the proposed demonstration, according to media reports. She had been among the student leaders participating in protests demanding action over the electoral roll revision and the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Security was tightened across Connaught Place ahead of the march, with police and paramilitary personnel deployed around the inner, middle and outer circles. Central Park was also closed to the public on 16 and 17th October, according to reports. Police had not granted permission for the gathering, citing restrictions in the area.

The march followed the detention of CJP convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to five days of judicial custody after allegedly demonstrating at Jantar Mantar on 13th October, a day after the site was removed from the list of designated protest venues.

CJP has accused authorities of restricting peaceful demonstrations, while the Election Commission has denied allegations of political bias in the voter-list revision. The BJP has also rejected claims that the electoral process was manipulated in its favour.
