Abhishek Banerjee Criticizes Congress Over EVM Allegations, Urges Evidence Submission
New Delhi, 16th December 2024: On Monday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee criticized the Congress party, urging those questioning the integrity of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to present evidence to the Election Commission.
“If anyone has proof of EVM tampering, they should demonstrate it to the Election Commission,” Banerjee stated. His remarks followed those of Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who dismissed Congress’s concerns over EVMs. Abdullah argued that one cannot accept EVM results when they win and then blame the machines when they lose. “If you celebrate a victory using the same EVMs, you can’t suddenly reject them when the results don’t go your way,” he said in an interview.
Echoing Abdullah, Banerjee added, “If EVM randomization is done properly and booth workers monitor the process during mock polls and counting, there should be no grounds for such allegations.” He further emphasized, “If anyone believes EVMs can be hacked, they should show the Election Commission how it can be done. Mere allegations are meaningless.”
Regarding speculation that Mamata Banerjee should lead the opposition bloc, Banerjee stated, “The INDIA bloc will discuss this matter.” He also pointed out that Mamata, having served as Chief Minister for three terms and a former Union Minister, is highly qualified to lead, but a detailed discussion is needed.
Banerjee asserted, “No party should be considered small. TMC is the only party in the INDIA bloc that has defeated both the BJP and Congress, proving its strength. TMC is the only party where people have joined from the BJP.”
