PM Modi Set to File Nomination Papers from Varanasi, Vows Continued Development
Varanasi, 14th May 2024: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to submit his nomination papers from Varanasi for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aiming for a third term representing the constituency. Preceding this, PM Modi conducted a 6-km-long roadshow, expressing his commitment to furthering the city’s development if re-elected.
Reflecting on his tenure, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, emphasizing Varanasi’s significance in his political journey. The historic clash in Varanasi during the 2014 elections, where PM Modi emerged victorious with a significant margin, solidified the constituency as a BJP stronghold, a legacy he seeks to continue.
Varanasi, comprising five assembly seats, has historically been a battleground for the BJP and Congress. While the BJP has seen success since 1991, winning the seat seven times, the Congress has also exerted influence, securing victory six times. PM Modi’s landslide victories in 2014 and 2019 further fortified Varanasi’s BJP stronghold.
With a demographic makeup of 75% Hindus, 20% Muslims, and 5% other religions, Varanasi holds a diverse population. PM Modi reiterated his commitment to Varanasi’s development, promising to address neglected issues and ensure progress for all residents.
Accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, PM Modi’s nomination filing will commence with a spiritual journey, including prayers at Assi Ghat and a visit to the Kaal Bhairav Temple before filing his papers.
PM Modi affirmed his dedication to serving Varanasi and expressed confidence in the city’s contribution to India’s development. The upcoming elections on June 1 will witness a contest between PM Modi and Congress candidate Ajay Rai, marking their third electoral face-off for the seat.
