BJP Manifesto 2024: Along with improving the facilities for the middle class, the scope of this class will also increase… What’s special in the BJP’s manifesto?

New Delhi, 15th April 2024: Despite being large and powerful, the middle class often complains of neglect. The BJP’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections can ignite new hopes among them because the party has made several significant promises for the upliftment and welfare of the middle class after forming its government at the center for the third consecutive time. The BJP, presenting its manifesto as a pledge, has assured the middle class of a better life by offering them new employment opportunities to fulfill their aspirations. They have promised affordable housing, expansion of urban transport facilities, free treatment for senior citizens up to five lakh rupees and better road infrastructure.

A notable aspect is the Government’s focus on the development of second and third-tier cities, which could alleviate pressure on metropolitan cities and state capitals. The party has pledged to create new satellite townships around major cities, for which existing rules and regulations will be amended and various other concessions will be provided. Last year, the Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh announced a new policy for township development. This policy relaxed several rules and approvals for developers, from land requirements to ensure an environment conducive to planned development. The BJP has also mentioned in its manifesto about continuing transit-oriented development. This step will not only enhance the facilities for the existing middle class but also expand its scope.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced a new housing scheme for the middle class from the Red Fort. This will be separate from the existing PM Housing Scheme operated for the poor in urban and rural areas, which will be based on subsidized loans. It is believed that this scheme is part of the government’s agenda for the first hundred days. Along with this, the BJP has promised in its manifesto to make RERA more effective to give a new impetus to the housing sector. A system for self-certification of standard house plans has also been promised. Along with the expansion of the PM e-bus service in 169 cities, the BJP has promised in its manifesto to rejuvenate the entire urban transport infrastructure, promoting multi-modal connectivity.

The BJP has promised in its manifesto to create an integrated metropolitan transport system. This will save a significant amount of time for people traveling within cities. To give a new direction to urban development, the party has pledged to create water-safe cities to meet the basic needs of water and also mentioned smart metering for consumers in its manifesto. The BJP has emphasized working together with the central, state and urban governments for urban development, aiming to provide a seamless and better quality of life for the vast middle class residing there. This is possible only when all three levels of government collaborate on the development of both physical and digital infrastructure in cities. The manifesto also reflects the BJP’s attention to the second and third-tier cities & their populations by promising to create ample opportunities for local jobs and enterprises in tourism-related sectors. It is believed that this will help reduce the population pressure in larger cities as well. The middle class also hopes for BJP’s promise in which they have stated that in its 3rd term, it will provide medical facilities up to 5 lakhs under the Ayushman scheme to every senior citizen aged over 70.
