Shinde-Fadnavis Disagree On Decision Regarding Karnataka-Maharashtra Border Conflict
Mumbai, 26th December 2022: The Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary conflict will likely not be resolved in the state legislature on Monday because of disagreements among the ruling Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (BSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Even though BSS said on Friday that the resolution would be introduced on Monday, the BJP’s state leadership is allegedly not in favour of it.
Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai, a member of the BSS led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, declared that he would present a resolution on Monday that was “stronger and tougher” (than Karnataka’s). The declaration was made against the backdrop of a resolution on the subject being adopted by the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday. However, the resolution is not on the agenda for either house of the legislature on Monday. The BJP is reportedly not eager to introduce the resolution right away, which is why it has been delayed, according to the BSS leaders.
A top BJP leader stated that the resolution may be introduced “soon” and that the decision regarding the resolution is anticipated to be made following a meeting with senior leaders from the two main parties. The party wants to be cautious about what the resolution says since it does not want any issues with either of its state administrations.
On the other hand, the opposition decided to intensify its criticism of the government on Monday over this matter as well as others including the allocation of NIT land and phone tapping. By setting aside other work, it has advanced an adjournment motion in the legislative council that demands a discussion of the border dispute.
Uddhav Thackeray, the former chief minister, is anticipated to attend Monday’s council meetings. Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, and Congress members who had abstained from the Assembly’s sessions on Friday will be present in the chamber on Monday. Before it, Thackeray is anticipated to attend a meeting of the three parties.
