Satisfied With SC Verdict On OBC Reservation: Uddhav Thackeray
Pune, 20th July 2022: Today (July 20) Supreme Court has given a verdict about Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation. The court has accepted the report of the Banthia Commission appointed by the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Also, the court has given instructions that elections should be announced in Maharashtra in the next two weeks by giving 27 per cent reservation to the OBC community in the elections of the local bodies.
Over the OBC reservation, now it is seen that there is a war of credulity between the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has given his first reaction to the OBC reservation verdict.
In a statement given to the media, he said, “I am satisfied that the OBC community got justice with the decision of the Supreme Court today. This is not a battle for credit at all. Because it is the duty of any government to work for the welfare of the common people, especially the weak society. That is why all the parties in the Maha Vikas Agha were trying wholeheartedly for OBC reservation from the very beginning.”
“This task was difficult. But in order to solve it, at that time we had repeated discussions with all the opposition parties and organizations and took them into confidence. There are few people to thank for the fact that an experienced senior officer like Jayant Banthia and his team have achieved this accomplishment. All the members of the commission were working very hard on this. Moreover, all the elements of the administrative system of the state also made their best efforts,” said Uddhav Thackeray.
He further said, “Actually everyone fought a good fight focusing on OBC reservation. Hence the efforts made by Maharashtra were successful. Even though I am not the Chief Minister today, there is no satisfaction regarding the fact that the steps taken during our time have been successful.”
