Railways Deploy Special Trains for IPL Teams, Stranded Passengers Amid Airport Closures

Jammu, 9th May 2025: In response to the closure of Jammu and Chandigarh airports, Indian Railways has operated multiple special trains to assist stranded passengers and facilitate movement of IPL players and officials. The initiative follows a review by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who instructed officials to ensure special train services based on public needs and coordinate with government agencies for efficient operations.

On May 9, four special trains were operated from Jammu and Udhampur. These included:

Train No. 04612, which departed from Jammu at 10:45 am with 12 unreserved and 12 reserved coaches.

A 20-coach Vande Bharat Express that left Udhampur at 12:45 pm and reached New Delhi via Jammu and Pathankot.

A 22-coach LHB special train that departed Jammu at 7:00 pm.

A dedicated Vande Bharat special train operated at the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for IPL players and officials. The train departed Jammu at 3:30 pm and is scheduled to reach New Delhi by evening.

Additionally, another unreserved special train to Guwahati via Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is scheduled to depart Jammu at 11:55 pm tonight.

Railway officials continue to monitor the situation and may introduce additional services as needed.
