Rahul Gandhi Labels Adani and Ambani as “A1” and “A2” in Lok Sabha Amid Criticism of Modi Government
New Delhi, 29th July 2024: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has frequently criticized the Narendra Modi government for allegedly favouring industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, referred to them as “A1” and “A2” on Monday. This was in response to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s objection to naming individuals outside of the House.
During his speech in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi accused Adani and Ambani of monopolizing India’s wealth and questioned how he could refer to them without naming them directly, given the Speaker’s restrictions. “Two industrialists are controlling the country… If I cannot name them in the House, then I will use terms like A1 and A2,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He also mocked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for his defence of the industrialists, stating, “Kiren Rijiju is defending A1 and A2 because he is under orders from the top.”
Rahul Gandhi drew an analogy to the Mahabharata’s ‘chakravyuha’ to criticize the BJP-led NDA government, suggesting it has fostered a climate of fear. He likened the situation to the ‘chakravyuha’ that led to the death of the young warrior Abhimanyu, identifying key figures like Dronacharya and Karna as central to the trap.
This analogy sparked a commotion among NDA MPs and prompted a response from Speaker Om Birla. In reaction, Rahul Gandhi offered to omit the names of the NSA and the two industrialists from his speech if necessary.
