Rahul Gandhi Interacts with Amit Shah, Omar Abdullah After Pahalgam Terror Attack
New Delhi, 23rd April 2025: Following the brutal terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed the lives of at least 28 tourists, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a comprehensive update on the situation. In a post shared on the social media platform X, the Congress leader revealed he also held discussions with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Tariq Karra, emphasising the urgent need for justice and coordinated relief for those affected.
“Had a detailed conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and PCC president Tariq Karra regarding the appalling incident in Pahalgam. Sought clarity on the evolving situation. The victims’ families must receive justice and unwavering support,” the Congress leader posted.
In the wake of the attack, the Congress party on Tuesday strongly criticised the Centre, urging it to move beyond rhetoric and acknowledge the ground realities in Jammu and Kashmir. The party demanded an all-party meeting to foster transparency and consensus on tackling terrorism in the Union Territory.
Condemning the attack as a horrifying act against humanity, Congress called for a robust and effective response from the government, warning that inaction would only embolden perpetrators further.
In related developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi ahead of schedule, cutting short his planned two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia to address the emerging crisis.
The Pahalgam incident marks one of the deadliest terrorist strikes in the region since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. Survivors have recounted chilling details — the assailants, allegedly foreign militants dressed in Army uniforms, reportedly singled out victims based on religious identity, asking them to disclose their names and recite Islamic verses before opening fire at close range.
The shooting unfolded around 1:30 p.m. in the Baisaran meadow, a scenic location roughly 7 km from Pahalgam, accessible by foot or horseback. On a seemingly peaceful afternoon, the tranquil tourist spot turned into a horror scene. Despite visible security deployments, including armed patrols and checkpoints, the attackers struck with calculated brutality, shaking public confidence in regional safety measures.
