Pune: Will formulate new policy to permanently address flood threat – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Pune, 5th August 2024: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the flood-affected areas of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, where he interacted with residents impacted by the floods. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the government would develop a new policy to address flood threats and find a permanent solution to the problems caused by flooding.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited several flood-affected areas, including Patil Estate in Shivajinagar, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Primary School in PMC Colony, Wakdewadi, Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Municipal School in Old Sangvi, Ekta Nagar on Sinhagad Road, and Khadakwasla. During his visits, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde interacted with residents and migrants affected by the floods.

Health Minister Dr. Tanaji Sawant, Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe, MP Shrirang Barne, MLAs – Bhimrao Tapkir, Madhuri Misal, Anna Bansode, Siddharth Shirole, Ashwini Jagtap, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh, District Collector of Pune Dr. Suhas Diwase, and other officials were present during the Chief Minister’s visit to the flood-affected areas.

Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde announced that the blue flood line in Pune will be re-surveyed in response to the recent flood situation. The Government of Maharashtra (GoM) is providing necessary assistance to those affected by the floods. Additionally, the GoM will implement measures to mitigate the risk of future flooding. A new Development Control and Promotion Rugulations (DCR) will be drafted to address the issues related to flood-affected housing. Shri Shinde stated that laws and regulations will be revised as needed to facilitate the redevelopment of housing in flood-prone areas.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Interacts with Flood Victims in Old Sangvi

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the flood-affected citizens relocated to the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Municipal School in the Old Sangvi area and reassured them. He stated that all necessary assistance is being provided by the government and that permanent rehabilitation of the citizens from the affected areas to safer locations will be undertaken. During this visit, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Singh provided information on the measures taken for the flood victims.
Chief Minister Visits Ekta Nagar

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road to inspect the measures taken for the flood-affected citizens. He spent about an hour and a half inquiring about the citizens and understanding their difficulties. He assured that every citizen’s life is important and that all necessary measures will be taken for their safety.

After that, the Chief Minister instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation administration to provide basic amenities such as repairing the drainage line and installing a new water line in the area. He also directed that help desks be set up in various parts of the flood-affected area, and health teams and nearby hospitals be kept ready. Following this, he inspected the backwaters of the Khadakwasla Dam along with the officials.
