PM Modi Visits Austria, Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Global Partnerships

Vienna, 10th July 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Austria for the first time and engaged in discussions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, emphasizing strategic ties and global issues like the Ukraine conflict. Following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, PM Modi reiterated the importance of peace over war during a joint press conference. He highlighted the historical significance of his visit, marking the first Indian PM visit to Austria in 41 years, and expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in infrastructure development, renewable energy, hydrogen technology, water and waste management, and artificial intelligence.

“We are focused on enhancing our partnership in strategic areas such as infrastructure, renewable energy, hydrogen, water and waste management, and artificial intelligence. This visit holds great significance at the onset of my third term,” PM Modi remarked.

Discussing international concerns, PM Modi underscored India and Austria’s shared commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing global challenges. He emphasized the need for peaceful solutions to conflicts, condemning violence against innocent civilians.

Chancellor Nehammer echoed PM Modi’s sentiments, highlighting India’s pivotal role in global affairs and expressing Austria’s appreciation for India’s participation in global peace initiatives. He emphasized their discussions on geopolitical developments, including the Ukraine crisis and Middle East conflicts, aiming to align India’s perspectives with European concerns.

Both leaders affirmed their countries’ stance against terrorism and their dedication to addressing pressing global issues like climate change through collaborative initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and disaster-resilient infrastructure.

PM Modi’s diplomatic engagements in Austria underscored India’s role as a significant global player committed to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
