PM Modi Inaugurates ‘Sudarshan Setu’: India’s Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge in Dwarka
Ahmedabad, 25th February 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, the ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ in Dwarka, Gujarat. Constructed at a cost of ₹979 crore, the 2.3 km-long bridge connects Okha and Beyt Dwarka island. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the bridge in October 2017, emphasizing its role as a link between old and new Dwarka.
The Sudarshan Setu is a four-lane bridge with a width of 27.20 meters and 2.50 meters wide footpaths on each side. It features a unique design, with the footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides. Previously known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ it has been renamed Sudarshan Setu.
Beyt Dwarka, located nearly 30 km from Dwarka town, is an island near Okha port, housing the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna.
Delighted about the inauguration, PM Modi expressed, “It stands vibrantly as a testament to our commitment to development and progress.” Before inaugurating the bridge, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the Dwarkadhish temple.
Later in the day, PM Modi also inaugurated Gujarat’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot. Additionally, he virtually inaugurated four other newly-built AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The total cost for constructing these five super-speciality hospitals is ₹6,300 crore.
In the evening, PM Modi is expected to participate in a mega roadshow in the city.
