‘Nitish and Mamata will have to answer for the ruckus in Bihar-Bengal during Ram Navami Celebrations’

Patna, 10th April 2023: Violence erupted during Ram Navami celebrations in Sasaram and Bihar Sharif in Bihar and Hooghly and Howrah in West Bengal. The secular credibility of the country is at stake in both states. The chief ministers of West Bengal and Bihar, Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar, respectively, are being criticized for their handling of the situation. It is alleged that they have forgotten their responsibility and the dignity of their post in their pursuit of appeasement politics.

In West Bengal, the Ram Navami procession was not allowed to pass off peacefully, and instead of taking any concrete action, CM Mamata Banerjee is accused of engaging in restricting the movement of Hindus. She has stated that Hindus should not go to certain areas, which has led to accusations of her trying to divide society and the region. The situation in Bihar is also similar, with the CM being accused of appeasement politics to preserve power.

The violence in both states is being viewed as a political issue rather than a religious or societal one. The question of whether there is a class behind these incidents or whether it is the politics of appeasement fueling them further is being raised. It is also being asked whether the work of spreading unrest in vote bank politics is being done in this way.

In two districts of Bihar, Sasaram and Nalanda, there were reports of stone pelting and tension during the procession taken out on the occasion of Ram Navami. Similarly, in West Bengal, radicals hurled bombs near the railway station in Rishada, leading to disruption of train services. The violence in both states is being linked to the politics of appeasement and vote bank politics.

The fact that stones and swords are used only on the procession of Hindus is being questioned, with calls to understand why Buddha’s Bihar is entangled in bomb and partition and why Tagore’s Bengal is burning in the fire of unrest. The responsibility for the violence lies with the state government, which is directly responsible for maintaining law and order. The lethargy from the Chief Minister to the officials in both states is being criticized, and the government is being accused of indulging in vote bank politics rather than standing with the victims.

The situation in Uttar Pradesh is being cited as a contrast to the situation in Bihar and West Bengal. Despite having several times more Muslims than Bihar and West Bengal, UP has not witnessed any riots. The Yogi Adityanath government of UP remains in full action round the clock and throughout the year, taking action against rioters and criminals without bias. This has led to the establishment of the rule of law in UP and the tightening of the noose of law on the mafia and criminals in the state.

The government has confiscated and demolished the property of 62 mafias worth more than 26 hundred crores in the year 2022. Eight criminals who became synonymous with fear were killed in an encounter. The government is taking police action to curb crime and criminals and is punishing them by effective lobbying in the court. The situation is different in Bihar and West Bengal, where rioters are being given government patronage, which boosts their morale, and common people are bearing the brunt of it.
