Mumbai: Former Shiv Sena Mayor Datta Dalvi Arrested, Sparks Protests from UBT Group

Mumbai, 29th November 2023: Former Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray (UBT) Group mayor Datta Dalvi has found himself amid controversy and legal trouble after a case was registered against him for allegedly defaming and abusing Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a public meeting. The incident has triggered a strong reaction from the Shiv Sena’s UBT group, which has deemed the arrest as unwarranted.

Dalvi was reportedly arrested without prior notice, and the police action has intensified the already strained relations between the Thackeray group and the current government. Sunil Raut, a prominent leader of the UBT group and younger brother of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, spoke out against the arrest, claiming that Dalvi was treated like a prisoner without due process.

UBT group has approached the court seeking a stay on Dalvi’s arrest, citing what they perceive as a lack of procedural fairness in the police action. Raut expressed his discontent with the government, alleging pressure on the police force and questioning the motive behind Dalvi’s arrest.

Raut, in a press statement, emphasized that their fight against the government began with the removal of Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and vowed to continue their opposition. He warned of escalating protests, including road blockades, if a stay on Dalvi’s arrest is not granted by the next day.

The political climate in the region seems tense, with the Thackeray group and the government at odds over the arrest. As the situation unfolds, there is anticipation of further developments in this ongoing political saga.
