Maharashtra Political Winds Shift: Raj Thackeray Open to Ties with Uddhav’s Shiv Sena if Concrete Proposal Emerges
Mumbai, 24th May 2025: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has shown a measured openness to exploring a political alliance with his cousin Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), but has made it clear that any forward movement will depend on the latter presenting a convincing and serious proposal.
MNS spokesperson Sandeep Deshpande pointed out that while Raj Thackeray has not committed to any alliance, he is not completely dismissive either. “There is no assurance or promise of a tie-up. Raj Thackeray simply said he would consider it if Shiv Sena (UBT) approaches us with a meaningful and solid proposal,” Deshpande clarified. He underscored past instances where discussions with Uddhav’s camp did not end on a trustworthy note, implying that this time, the responsibility lies with Shiv Sena (UBT) to prove its sincerity.
As municipal elections draw near in major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, the prospect of a renewed Thackeray partnership has stirred interest within political circles. Both parties are facing internal and electoral challenges, and a potential alliance could serve as a timely revival strategy.
Uddhav Thackeray has also hinted at a willingness to bury the hatchet for the sake of the larger Marathi community. While there has been no formal outreach from the Eknath Shinde-led ruling Shiv Sena faction, Uddhav’s group appears receptive to rebuilding old bridges.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab expressed optimism over the evolving situation, stating, “Leaders from both sides will engage in dialogue. Whatever decision is taken jointly by Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, we will respect and accept it.”
A senior MNS functionary, requesting anonymity, described the development as a slow but positive turn. “These things take time. But the fact that conversations are beginning is a good sign, for both the parties and for the people of Maharashtra,” the leader said.
With both Thackeray cousins currently active in Mumbai’s political corridors, discussions between their respective parties are expected to begin soon. If successful, such a reunion could significantly disrupt the current political balance in Maharashtra and inject new energy into two regional outfits striving to regain their influence.
