Israel Launches Unilateral Strike on Iran, U.S. Declares Non-Involvement

Washington, 13 June 2025: Israel conducted a unilateral military operation against Iran late Thursday, targeting nuclear and military sites, according to a statement from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The U.S. has confirmed it is not involved in the strikes, with Rubio emphasizing the protection of American forces as the top priority.

In a statement released by the White House, Rubio said, “Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.” He added that Israel informed the U.S. of the action, believing it necessary for self-defense.

The Trump administration has taken all necessary steps to safeguard U.S. troops, Rubio noted, while maintaining close communication with regional partners. “Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel,” he warned, signaling a cautious stance amid escalating tensions.

The operation, dubbed “Rising Lion” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, targets Iran’s nuclear program and military infrastructure, with reports of explosions in Tehran and strikes on the Natanz enrichment facility. Iranian state media confirmed casualties, including the reported death of Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami.

Israel’s defense forces launched the preemptive strikes, citing an imminent threat from Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The U.S. has not detailed specific measures taken to protect its forces but reiterated its non-involvement in the military action.
