Indian Space Policy 2023 Approved By Cabinet; Opens Sector To Private Industries
New Delhi, 7th April 2023: The Indian Space Policy 2023, which aims to strengthen the Department of Space’s function, increase the operations of ISRO missions, and increase the participation of research, academia, startups, and industry, was approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday (April 6).
The goal of this policy is to formalize private sector involvement in the space industry.
The private sector’s entrance would enable ISRO to concentrate more on the study and creation of cutting-edge space technologies.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center, and the space industry PSU NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) have all been specifically included in the policy.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, at a press conference, said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to allow private investment in the space sector. Due to this, the number of startups at ISRO has reached 150 in just three years.”
He added, “Today the Cabinet approved the Indian Space Policy 2023, which, in essence, would provide clarity to the roles of each of these other components that have been established to strengthen the role of the space department and to support the activities of ISRO missions. to increase collaboration between academia, entrepreneurs, and industry.”
