Education Ministry Requests CAG Investigation Of PM Poshan Scheme In West Bengal

New Delhi, 8th February 2023: According to officials today (February 8), the Ministry of Education has requested a special audit from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) into the suspected misappropriation of money for the PM Poshan scheme in West Bengal during the last three years.
Based on the audit results, they stated that the ministry will take the necessary corrective action.

A senior ministry representative said, “The implementation of the PM Poshan programme in the State of West Bengal for the previous three fiscal years has been the subject of a special audit request from the Education Ministry to the CAG. This audit will cover financial, performance, and compliance aspects.”

According to Regulations on Audit and Accounts (Amendment) 2020, which were created following Section 23 of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service) Act, 1971 (Act No. 56 of 1971), CAG is authorised to undertake this audit.

The PM Poshan scheme, which is administered by the Department of School Education and Literacy, provides funding to states under their plans for providing one hot-cooked lunch to eligible students in classes I through VIII and Balvatika (below Class I).

About 11.80 crore children in the nation attend 11.20 lakh government-run and government-aided schools as a result of the PM Poshan initiative.
