ECI Inspects CM Shinde and Dy CM Pawar’s Helicopters Amidst Thackeray Criticism

Mumbai, 13th November 2024: Following criticism by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Chief Uddhav Thackeray over recent checks of his helicopter by Election Commission of India (ECI) officials, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also had their helicopters inspected by the ECI on today.

Both leaders posted videos on X, expressing their cooperation with the ECI staff. Ajit Pawar, referencing the routine inspection, offered chakli (Diwali snack) found in his bags, while CM Shinde lightheartedly mentioned the contents of his suitcase, including clothes, food items, and soft drinks. Shinde also made a humorous remark about the absence of a “urine pot,” referencing Thackeray’s recent comments on the EC’s thorough checks.

A Shiv Sena spokesperson praised CM Shinde’s cooperation with the officials, sharing a video of the inspection at Palghar. Ajit Pawar also posted on X, stating, “Today, while on my way to campaign, ECI conducted a routine check of my bags and helicopter. I fully cooperate and believe such measures are essential for free and fair elections. Let us all respect the law and support efforts to uphold our democracy’s integrity.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s helicopter was similarly checked by ECI officials yesterday during his campaign in Latur. Meanwhile, the BJP criticized Thackeray for drawing attention to his helicopter inspection. The BJP shared footage of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis’ bags being checked in Kolhapur on 5th November and in Yavatmal on 7th November, noting that Fadnavis did not publicly react or film the incident.

The ECI’s standard procedure mandates checks of helicopters and bags for all top political leaders during election periods, ensuring compliance with election regulations.
