Digvijaya Singh Asserts Kamal Nath’s Allegiance: Denies Speculations of BJP Alliance
New Delhi, 18th February 2024: In response to growing speculations about Kamal Nath considering an alliance with the BJP, Digvijaya Singh, on Sunday, affirmed Nath’s commitment to the Congress, dismissing any notion of him leaving the party. Singh, acknowledging Kamal Nath’s significant roles within the Congress, emphasized that he had held various key positions, making it unlikely for him to part ways with the party.
“I maintain regular communication with Kamal Nath, and discussions are ongoing within the Congress leadership concerning him. Kamal Nath, who began his political journey with the Congress and has been widely regarded as the third son of Indira Gandhi, has consistently been a staunch supporter of the party and a crucial pillar of the Congress.” Singh emphasized.
“He was the cabinet minister at the Centre, state Congress committee president and the chief minister. He got all the posts. I don’t think he will leave the party,” Singh added.
Responding to the ongoing rumours, Kamal Nath, while denying any communication with the BJP, did not explicitly refute the speculations about his future political moves. However, he asserted that he would inform the public if there were any such developments.
Meanwhile, several Madhya Pradesh MLAs loyal to Kamal Nath, including three from his stronghold Chhindwara, arrived in Delhi on Sunday. Their presence in the capital adds fuel to the speculation about Nath and his son Nakul Nath planning to part ways with the Congress. The MLAs, not responding to calls, are reportedly rallying behind Nath, expressing discontent with the treatment meted out to him by the party leadership.
The situation intensified as Nakul Nath removed references to the Congress from his social media profiles, hinting at a possible rift. Kamal Nath, a nine-time MP from Chhindwara, has reportedly been upset about being removed as the Madhya Pradesh unit chief and being overlooked for a Rajya Sabha nomination. Nakul Nath’s unilateral declaration to contest the Lok Sabha elections independently has further fueled the political turmoil within the Nath family and the Congress party.
