Delhi LG Orders Investigation Into AAP’s Schemes Ahead of Assembly Elections
New Delhi, 28th December 2024: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered an investigation into allegations related to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) schemes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. This follows complaints filed by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, prompting separate directives to the Delhi Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Police.
The allegations involve the fraudulent collection of personal data under the AAP’s Mahila Samman Yojana, the presence of Punjab intelligence officers near Congress candidates’ homes, and alleged cash transfers from Punjab to Delhi to influence the elections.
Dikshit’s complaint raised concerns about the Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises Rs 2,100 per month to eligible women. The Lieutenant Governor instructed the Chief Secretary to investigate the unauthorized collection of personal data by private individuals during registration, and the Delhi Police has been directed to take action against privacy violations through illegal registration camps.
In response, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal dismissed the allegations as “fake” and questioned the investigation’s purpose. He expressed concerns that the BJP’s objective was to stop beneficial schemes like Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana if they won the elections. Kejriwal also criticized the BJP for allegedly disrupting registration camps and described the investigation as politically motivated.
The Delhi government’s Women and Child Development and Health departments had previously issued warnings about the Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana, stating they lacked government approval and were fraudulent, cautioning citizens against sharing personal information with unauthorized individuals.
Dikshit also claimed that cash was being transported from Punjab to Delhi for election-related activities. In response, the LG’s office has ordered the Delhi Police to monitor vehicles entering from neighbouring states, and police in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan have been alerted to prevent illegal activity.
Additionally, Dikshit alleged that intelligence officers from Punjab were stationed near Congress candidates’ residences, prompting the Lieutenant Governor to instruct an investigation by the Delhi Police Commissioner, with a report to be submitted in three days.
The AAP has accused the BJP of using the Lieutenant Governor’s office to undermine its electoral chances, with the party alleging that the orders came from BJP leaders, particularly Amit Shah’s office. AAP also claimed that over 22 lakh women had already registered for the Mahila Samman Yojana.
