Congress Candidate Balwant Wankhede Defeats BJP’s Navneet Kaur Rana in Amravati

Amravati, 4th June 2024: BJP candidate Navneet Kaur Rana faced defeat in the Amravati constituency of Maharashtra, where she contested against Balwant Wankhede of the Indian National Congress party. The competition between the two was intense, with fluctuating leads during the vote count. Eventually, Wankhede emerged as the chosen representative.

With a voter turnout of 63.67%, the electoral battle primarily revolved around the BJP and Congress candidates, despite 37 contenders vying for the seat. Notably, Navneet Rana’s political campaign lacked support from Bachu Kadu, following disputes with her husband, MLA Ravi Rana.

Navneet Rana, a former actress in South Indian films, entered politics after marrying MLA Ravi Rana in 2011. Despite a previous defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections under the NCP banner, she won as an independent candidate in 2019, subsequently aligning with the BJP. However, her bid for re-election under the BJP ticket ended in defeat this time.

Navneet’s journey from the film industry to politics reflects her commitment to public service, now alongside her husband, the MLA of Amravati.
