BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP Secure All Nine Seats in Maharashtra MLC Polls

Mumbai, 13th July 2024: The Mahayuti alliance achieved a significant victory in the Maharashtra legislative council elections. The alliance, composed of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s NCP, and the BJP, fielded nine candidates for 11 seats and secured wins for all nine candidates.

Among the winners were five BJP leaders, two from the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and two from the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). In the elections held on Friday, BJP leaders Pankaja Munde, Parinay Phuke, and Yogesh Tilekar each secured 26 votes, surpassing the victory threshold of 23 votes. Rajesh Vitekar and Shivajirao Garje from the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), along with Bhavana Gawli from Shinde Sena, also emerged victorious.

BJP leader Amit Malviya expressed his satisfaction on the microblogging site X, stating, “The NDA had fielded nine MLC candidates in Maharashtra. All have won. BJP (5), Shiv Sena (2), NCP (2). I.N.D.I Alliance’s performance was sub-optimal with Congress and UBT winning one seat each and NCP (SP)’s candidate losing the contest. Good news this is.”

BJP national president JP Nadda also extended his congratulations, saying, “Heartiest congratulations to all the leaders of the NDA for registering this landslide victory in the Maharashtra MLC election. I’m certain that under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, you all will contribute significantly to nation-building. Your experience in public service will accelerate our efforts towards advancing both the state and the nation towards the envisioned ‘Viksit Maharashtra’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he wrote on X.

The term for eleven MLCs will end on July 27, and the electoral college for these polls is the 288-member legislative assembly, which currently has 274 members.
