BJP Aims for Significant Gains in West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana in Mission 2024
New Delhi, 25th December 2023: In the pursuit of a resounding victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana as crucial battlegrounds. With a total of 80 Lok Sabha seats in these three states, the BJP seeks to surpass its 2019 performance, where it secured only 30 seats.
Amit Shah, the architect of the BJP’s historic triumph in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, has taken personal charge of these three states, underscoring their strategic importance in Mission 2024. Additionally, the BJP anticipates an increase in its seat count in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana played pivotal roles in securing the BJP’s victory tally of 303 seats in 2019.
In the 2014 elections, the BJP clinched only four seats across West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana combined. However, in 2019, the party significantly bolstered its presence by securing 26 seats in these states—16 in West Bengal, seven in Odisha, and four in Telangana. Undeterred by its victory in 18 West Bengal seats in the last elections, BJP is poised for further growth, setting a target of winning on 33 seats and expressing confidence in securing more than 25 seats.
Odisha, with 21 Lok Sabha seats, witnessed the BJP winning eight seats in 2019. The party now aims to strengthen its position by formulating a strategy to secure at least 15 seats. Meanwhile, in Telangana, following the setback in the Assembly elections, BJP anticipates a direct contest with the Congress in the Lok Sabha. With 17 Lok Sabha seats at stake, the BJP aspires to double its seat count, banking on its close competition in several constituencies in the previous elections.
After securing 72 seats in 2014, BJP faced a setback with a reduction of 10 seats in 2019. The party is determined to compensate for these losses in the upcoming elections.
As the BJP intensifies its efforts in these critical states, the political landscape is poised for an intriguing contest. The party’s ambitious goals in West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh reflect its commitment to expanding its political footprint across diverse regions in Mission 2024.
